Twelve Apostles Mnemonics

Statues of Jesus and the apostles - Twelve Apostles Mnemonics
In preparation for Easter, I thought I’d find you some twelve apostles mnemonics that you can share with your kids.

The mnemonics that I have for you below include a fun saying, an acronym and a rhyme. Some of these memory tricks use Simon for Peter’s name so you may want to explain the reasoning for that ahead of time. Also, these are for the original twelve followers of Jesus before his crucifixion, so Paul is not in any of these mnemonics.

Now, here they are.

Twelve Apostles Mnemonics

Let’s start with a list of the apostles for you to reference.

  • (Simon) Peter
  • James
  • John
  • Andrew
  • Bartholomew
  • James the Lesser
  • Judas
  • Jude
  • Matthew
  • Philip
  • Simon the Zealot
  • Thomas

Now, here’s a little saying that incorporates all of the names of the apostles.

Bart And John Fill Tom’s Mat with two Jameses, two Simons, and two Judases.

That translates to this:

Bartholomew – Andrew – John – Philip – Thomas – Matthew – James – James – Simon (Peter) – Simon – Jude – Judas

* * *

If you put the first letter of each apostle’s name in a list, you get this acronym:

MATT, 4J, BPPS

Matthew
Andrew
Thomas
Thaddaeus
James
James the Lesser
John
Judas
Bartholomew
Peter
Phillip
Simon the Zealot

* * *

You’re probably familiar with this old Sunday School rhyme.

This is the way the disciples run
Peter, Andrew, James and John
Philip and Bartholomew
Thomas next and Matthew, too.
James the less and Judas the greater
Simon the zealot and Judas the traitor.

That’s all of the twelve apostles mnemonics that I have for you today.

Do you have another? Share it in the comments.

Many blessings,
Susan
