World History Mnemonics

Greek philosophers - World History Mnemonics
I have some world history mnemonics for you today that I think you’ll like.

They will help your kids and teens learn the Seven Wonders, Egyptian pharaohs, Roman emperors, and Greek philosophers.

They incorporate fun phrases with beginning letter cues and acronyms.

Use them to enhance your ancient history curriculum.

World History Mnemonics

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World

Let’s start with the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

They are:

Statue of Zeus
Lighthouse of Alexandria
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
Pyramids at Giza
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Temple of Artemis
Colossus of Rhodes

And this phrase will help with memorizing them.

Egyptian Pharaohs of the New Kingdom

If ancient Egypt is on your schedule, you might want your kids to learn the names of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom. Let’s begin with a list of their names.

Ahmose,
Amenhotep I
Thutmoses I
Thutmoses II
Hatshepsut
Thutmoses III
Amenhotep II
Thutmoses IV
Amenhotep III
Akhenaten
Smenhkare
Tutankhamun
Ay
Horemheb
Ramesses I
Seti I
Ramesses II
Merenptah

This phrase has beginning letter cues to help with memorization:

An Apple That Thinks Heavy Thoughts, And Thinks All Apples Sometimes Think, Apparently Has Really Serious Ramifications, Mentally.

First Five Roman Emperors

Studying ancient Rome? Here’s a list of the first five emperors, all of whom included the name “Caesar” in their title.

Augustus (31 BC – AD 14)
Tiberius (AD 14 – 37)
Caligula (also known as Gaius) (AD 37 – 41)
Claudius (AD 41 – 54)
Nero (AD 54 – 68)

One mnemonic for remembering them is this one. (Note: This uses both names Caligula and Gaius for the third emperor)

Caesars all, 5 AT C–Guys ClaN

A shorter, simpler phrase is this one.

Greek Philosophers

There were many philosophers in ancient Greece, however, the most notable are the three listed below.

Socrates
Plato
Aristotle

This little acronym can help kids remember these great three.
