A special thanks goes to Demetria of Christian Homeschool Moms. 🙂
Last week, she shared this wonderful post about her pledge to honor copyright laws. In it she explains that iHomeschool Network is participating in an Honor Copyright campaign. They have a page on their site where you can also pledge to honor copyright laws by adding your name (and your site if you have one) to a list.
The purpose of this pledge is to ask homeschoolers to be cautious about the purchasing and sharing of copyrighted materials. They also encourage them to share the truth about copyright law with others.
I agree with them completely.
I know that it is tempting to share materials we have purchased with others and allow them to make copies as they like. We feel like we are doing them a favor. While we may indeed be doing them a favor, we aren’t doing the company who spent hours developing a product any favors. In fact, we could be hurting them financially. And when it is a small business run by, perhaps, a homeschool family or mom, then we really hurt them. I just can’t see myself doing that to any fellow homeschooling mom or family.
So I ask that you consider these things with items you purchase and use in your homeschool. Also consider signing the pledge on the iHomeschool Network link above. Any way that you can show your support for copyright law and for businesses that create educational products is greatly appreciated.
As always, thank you so much for visiting this site and have a great year!
