Calendar and Time Mnemonics

Clock and calendar - Calendar and Time Mnemonics
Are you teaching your kids about the calendar or time?

If you are, I have some great calendar and time mnemonics that you can use!

These mnemonics will help your kids learn the days of the week as well as the length of each month.

Do you forget which way you should set your clocks when daylight savings time comes and goes?

Well, guess what? I have a mnemonic for YOU that will help you remember.

Let’s take a peek at all of these calendar and time mnemonics.

Calendar and Time Mnemonics

Days of the Week

Want to help your young child learn the days of the week? Sing this song with them that goes to the tune of Clementine.

Days of the Week Song

There are seven days, there are seven days,
There are seven days in the week.
There are seven days, there are seven days,
There are seven days in the week.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Days in a Month

This post wouldn’t be complete without this classic poem that tells us how many days are in each month.

Thirty Days Hath September

Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November;
All the rest have thirty-one,
Excepting February alone,
And that has twenty-eight days clear
And twenty-nine in each leap year.

Use Your Knuckles

Your child can use his knuckles to remember the length of each month.

Tell him to put his fists together, first finger touching first finger. Now have him say the name of each month on each knuckle and dip between the knuckles. He’ll discover that the knuckles are all of the months that have 31 days. The dips are for February, which has 28, and the months that have 30 days. (The place where the two fists meet should be knuckle-knuckle. There should be no dip there.)

Daylight Savings Time

Can’t remember what to do with your clock when Daylight Savings Time comes and goes? This little phrase will help:

Spring forward. Fall back.

It means you should set your clocks ahead (forward) in the spring and back in the fall.
