Homeschooling: If I Could Do It Over Again

Homeschooling If I Could Do It Over Again
Now that my children are grown, I have found myself reflecting back on our past homeschooling years.

I have some very wonderful memories of some of the things we did during those 15 years…the beautiful art projects, the fun science experiments, the lovely music, the creative writing, the co-op classes, the field trips, and more.

On the flip side, there are some things that I wish I had done differently. I thought I’d share some of those things with you in hopes that they might help you on your homeschool journey.

  1. I’d focus more on praying and less on doing.
  2. I’d focus more on encouraging and less on disciplining.
  3. I’d focus more on the process of learning and less on the outcome.
  4. I’d focus more on collaborative choices with my kids and less on my choices.
  5. I’d focus more on teaching values and less on facts.
  6. I’d focus more on being joyful and less on being stressed.
  7. I’d focus more on telling my kids what they can do and less on what they can’t.
  8. I’d focus more on letting them explore and less on formal lessons.
  9. I’d focus more on looking for their good traits and less on finding fault.
  10. I’d focus more on living in the moment and less on thinking about the future.
  11. I’d focus more on teaching them to see the big picture and less on just the parts.
  12. I’d focus more on flexibility and less on structure.
  13. I’d focus more on humor and less on seriousness.
  14. I’d focus more on being a positive role model and less on being a negative one.
  15. I’d focus more on loving and less on worrying.

If I’d had the wisdom then that I have now, our homeschooling experience would have been very different. But, I won’t regret. I will just be thankful that I have learned.

I hope this post helps you and others learn too.

Many blessings,
Susan's siggy
