Learning to divide big numbers is a challenging task for children. There are many steps to keep track of and it can be easy for them to forget any of them.

Fortunately there are long division mnemonics that will help memorize the steps for dividing as well as checking their answers.

I have a selection of these math memory tricks for you below. I hope they help your child get better at long division.




Long Division Mnemonics

Memory tricks for long division vary depending on what particular steps are taught. For the mnemonics below, I first list the steps and then the mnemonic. That way, you can choose the one that is right for you and your child.




1. Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring down

Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother
