If you have a teen who is learning the taxonomic classification system, I have a few taxonomy mnemonics that you might want to share with him.
These memory tricks work for four different versions of the taxonomic hierarchy system, one with nine categories, one which excludes Variety, one which excludes Domain, and one that excludes both of these categories. Choose the one that works best with your science program.
Taxonomy Mnemonics
Let’s begin with a complete list of the categories in the taxonomic hierarchy.
Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species, Variety
This phrase can help your teens remember it.
