August 22nd is Be an Angel Day

Be an angel day
Did you know that today you can be a blessing to someone else?

Of course you can be a blessing any day of the year, but today is special.

Today is Be an Angel Day.

It’s the perfect day for you and your children to do something a little angelic for a needy person or family.

Acts of kindness never go unrewarded. They bring a sort of spiritual blessing to the giver, a special present from God. As St. Basil said, “He who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.”

Be an Angel Day is a good day to show your children how “kindness gathers love.” By doing a good deed for another person, they can experience first hand that special present that comes from God…the gift of love.

“For it is in giving that we receive…” — St. Francis of Assisi

I thought you might like some suggestions on ways your family can do a good deed on Be an Angel Day. Since the temperatures are still pretty hot in August, I figured I’d give you some ideas on how to help others stay cool as well as some more general recommendations for assisting the needy.

Ways to Bless Others on Be an Angel Day

  • If you have an air conditioned home and it is a hot day, invite someone over who doesn’t have air conditioning.
  • Treat them to a cool refreshing drink such as iced tea, lemonade, or iced coffee.
  • Mow their lawn for them.
  • Bring them a salad or something else for dinner so that they don’t have to cook.
  • Share some extra fans you might have with someone who doesn’t have any.
  • If they don’t have a car, take them to the library, mall, or other air conditioned place.
  • Water their garden for them.
  • Take them and/or their kids to the beach with you.
  • Bring them produce from your garden.
  • Invite them and/or their kids over to enjoy your pool if you have one.
  • Bring them ice cream or some other cold treat.
  • Take their kids to a water park with your kids.
  • If you have a nice, finished basement, invite them over to enjoy the coolness.
  • Give away some old books or magazines that you don’t want anymore.
  • Leave a basket of goodies such as soaps and lotions on their doorstep.
  • Offer to wash the dishes or do some other housework.
  • Give them clothes you don’t need anymore.
  • Run an errand for them.
  • Give them coupons you aren’t using.
  • Buy them a tank of gas.
  • Walk their dog.
  • Volunteer at a soup kitchen.
  • Buy a homeless person a meal.
  • Volunteer for a day at a nursing home or hospital.
  • Pray for them.

I hope that these ideas inspire you and your family to help someone in need this Be an Angel Day. Have fun earning your wings. 🙂

Many blessings,
Susan's siggy
