Independent Learning Activities for Children

Independent Learning Activities for Children
In Help Your Child Be an Independent Learner, I gave tips for leading your child to be a little more self-reliant.

But sometimes it can be difficult to find activities that a young child or a special needs child can do by himself.

Or sometimes you’d like to find something that can help an older child memorize math facts, practice states and capitals, or reinforce learning in some area.

That’s where self-checking activities come into play. They are independent learning activities for children that let a child know if he is right or wrong while practicing a skill or learning a concept.

They are usually designed to be fun so that they engage the child. At the very least, they are a little more interesting than flashcards. (No offense to flashcards)

They can last a really long time. I still have some that I used with my kids and they are in great shape.

GeoSafari

We love GeoSafari! My kids used to take it with them in the car. It’s so versatile. Each laptop comes with a large pack of cards that has questions and puzzles in a wide variety of subjects. Plus, it can be played alone or with another person. Of all the learning toys listed here, this is definitely our favorite.

Laptop for ages 3-7

Laptop for ages 8 and up

I have some printable puzzles and games here that your kids can use. The flash card games have a solo play option that would perfect for independent learning.

Many blessings,
Susan's siggy
