Writing

The Writing Process Step 5: Publishing

The Writing Process Step 5
The final step of the writing process is Publishing.

This is where your child gets to create the final copy of his work.

It’s also the perfect opportunity for him to share his hard work with others.

Let’s look at what he can do.

The Writing Process Step 5: Publishing

Handwritten Essays

If your child wrote her essay on paper, then she will have to copy it over or type it.

Essays on Computer

If he typed his paper on a computer, then all he has to do is print it out.  How easy is that!

Ways to Make it Look Nice

Your child can publish her paper as a book by making a nice front and back cover for it out of construction paper.  Or you can buy a report cover for it at an office supply store to make it look professional.  She can also create illustrations, charts, or diagrams to go with it.  If the paper is on the computer, pictures from the internet can be copy and pasted into it.

CAUTION: Searching for pictures on the internet can bring up some not-so-nice images.  Google has some safe searching pages.  One is Google Safe Images and another is Google Safe Search.

Congratulations!

When it’s done, the first thing that I would do is congratulate your child on such an accomplishment.  Children take a risk every time they write, so it is good to offer them praise for their labor.

Sharing

You may want to offer your child a chance to share his paper with others.  He could read it aloud to his family and/or friends.  If he interviewed someone for the essay, he could send that person a copy.  He could send a copy to a distant relative like a grandparent.  He could share it at with a homeschool group.  If your child doesn’t feel comfortable sharing, that’s find too.  What matters most is learning the writing process and accomplishing the goal of completing the paper.

And congratulations to you on taking your child through this long writing process.  Do you have any ideas or suggestions about using the writing process?  Feel free to share them in the comments section below.

Many blessings,
