Who am I?Susan

My name is Susan.  I have two beautiful daughters. We live in rural Minnesota. I love homeschooling, reading, writing, music, and learning.

I have a B.A. in Elementary Education and minors in Music and Spanish.  I have 19 years of experience teaching in the public schools. I taught as a regular teacher for about 9 years, then quit to sub so that I could homeschool my daughters. I have taught preschool through high school.

So why did I, a licensed teacher, begin homeschooling her kids in the 90′s? Maybe because I’m a bit of a rebel. ;) Also, I started noticing back then the fundamental problems with our public school system. I came to see that schools were like factories manufacturing our kids’ education. Problems with discipline, drugs, and alcohol were on the rise. Kids in public schools thought it more important to socialize with friends than to learn. Motivation to work and to learn were in the basement. I didn’t want my kids in that environment.

I started investigating the homeschooling world. Here I found a wonderful opportunity to educate my kids optimally, let them learn at a pace that is right for them, and help them explore their unique talents and learning styles. I could also teach them about God in school without getting fired. :)

I like all forms of homeschooling from classic to online learning. Yes, I believe that online learners are our brothers and sisters in homeschooling too. I personally love using technology to teach. I have another website just for families who use online learning. It’s LearningOnlineBlog.com and you are welcome to visit it.

This site, HomeschoolWithLove, was born out of a desire to help homeschoolers with their struggles. I felt called to share all of my knowledge as a teacher with homeschoolers to make their job easier. I also like making learning fun, because when learning is fun, it sticks in the minds of kids better.

I hope you find this site helpful on your homeschooling journey. Please come share your experiences on my Facebook and Google+ pages. I would love to hear your stories. :)

Many blessings,
